The 15-inch viola is the first viola size that has a longer body than a 4/4 violin. The longer body and deeper ribs help the C string speak more clearly with an overall bigger, deeper tone quality for the whole instrument. The 15-inch viola typically fits players 13 through adult. As violas get larger, the main factors that determine fit are finger length and hand span.
